Rhodia Announces Launch of Laser Sintering Materials

According to Plastics & Rubber Weekly, specialty chemical company Rhodia has announced it’s entrance into the SLS market by offering PA6 and PA11 powders. Announced at the K 2010 International Trade Fair, the new materials are apparently just the beginning, with other materials such as PA6,6 to be launched as well as PBT & PPS at a later date. This is an interesting development, as limited material availability has often been cited as a major hurdle in the transition of the technology from Rapid Prototyping to Additive Manufacturing. 3D Printer Benchmark Profiles Seven Systems

RTAM Advisor and Additive Manufacturing consultant Todd Grimm has announced the completion of a 3D Printer benchmark study comparing seven systems. The benchmark measures the performance of Alaris30, Designjet 3D, ProJet SD 3000, SD300 Pro, uPrint, V-Flash and ZPrinter 310 Plus in terms of time, cost and quality. According to Todd Grimm, president of T. A. Grimm & Associates, Inc., “Our goal is to put real-world data in the hands of those interested in evaluating 3D printers so that they can make informed decisions.”

Patent Models and 3D Printing on Exhibit at Art Center

If you are in the Pasadena area this Summer, be sure to stop by the Art Center College of Design and check out the two exhibits on display in the Alyce de Roulet Williamson Gallery. Both “The Curious World of Patent Models” and “The Future of Objects” exhibits sound very cool according to this article on the Pasadena Star News website. Brent Stucker Receives ASTM Award

RTAM Community Advisor Brent Stucker has received the 2010 Robert J. Painter Award from ASTM International and the Standards Engineering Society for his contributions towards the F42 Additive Manufacturing Technologies committee. Stucker, who recently joined the University of Louisville, was recognized for his work as the Chairman of the F42 Committee and the progress that has been made in creating Global standards for the Additive Manufacturing Industry.

Additive Manufacturing International Conference 2010

The 2010 Additive Manufacturing International Conference will be taking place July 7th & 8th at Loughborough University, about 2 hours north of London. The event is being hosted by the Additive Manufacturing Research Group and is expected to see around 150 delegates from around the Globe. The Conference is focused on end-use parts produced by additive layer technologies and will feature presentations by many industry leaders including Boeing, BMW, Nike, NASA, Freedom of Creation and RTAM’s own David Leigh of Harvest Technologies.
